The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25k honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

He was given the prize on mid-October as his third album People Watching was named the best record of the past year.

The musician has opted to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots played in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have shut down – about one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

He also participated, generating over £100k on his recent tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

The money supported spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to issues stemming from water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces received financial assistance in upgrading facilities and gear that helped performers and audiences.

"The concept that revenue from performances in large arenas helps the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has said.

"And I contributed a grand to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," she shared with the media.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the youth organization that supported their act, alongside other local music groups.

Also winners that year the group gave their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated vocalist the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our success touched the lives of others."

Last week, the trust shared it had protected several local spots in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

The Joiners in Southampton and the second in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "shares" in the venues.
